It's strange to think how much angst may have been caused in India over the decades by misunderstandings of the English language. To "propagate" religion means to ensure its continuation, as through religious instruction. It does not mean to proselytize. The words are different.

we need to stop wishing people for birthdays/other occasions at midnight. the Hindu day begins at daybreak, not in the dead of the night - small incremental steps in rejecting western notions of time, though largely unavoidable in most other circumstances.
