Embankment Gardens, London. I wonder how many of the people eating lunch under its shade realise that this plane tree saw two world wars, the opening of the underground, 6 Kings and Queens, the building of Tower Bridge or the fight for women's voting rights.

Word of the day: “dilapidate” - to fall slowly to ruin, to cause to decay or disintegrate over time (of a building, body, structure, reputation etc). Literally “to scatter the stones of”; from the Latin dis (apart) and lapidāre (to stone, to throw stones).

Double cd compilation of #GeneClark and his massive contribution to folk rock, country music and beyond. Starting with #TheByrds (their main man in the mid 60s) & following his illustrious career until his untimely death in '91, this is a lovely tribute to the man and his music.

The interiors of Bisham Abbey were updated for the Vansittart family after 1780 and restored in 1859. A charming painting of the 1920s shows the drawing room at that time.
