Difficulty with impulse control is a common symptom of bipolar, and is often worse during periods of acute mania. The same issues can also affect people living with depression, OCD and several other conditions, including people experiencing psychosis.

The DWP can deduct 15% of someone’s monthly Universal Credit payment if they’re overpaid benefits. This often happens within a month of the DWP spotting the overpayment. For a single adult aged 25+, 15% of their Universal Credit could be £60 a month – a major income shock. 3/6
