We say we want students back in school because it’s good for their mental health. But have limited or taken away everything at school that does help mental health. The Arts, music, band, Physical Ed, CTE classes. And recess too!

I am in shock at the amount of people that defends dodgeball as an appropriate learning activity for students. It’s embarrassing and those are the ones that make our jobs look replaceable and unimportant. Tell me ONE just ONE skill dodgeball teaches please. Sad. #knowyourpurpose

As an admin, I valued teamwork as much as a stellar teacher. That’s because if greatness is performed in isolation, it does little to cultivate a dynamic school culture. But if you have a team of committed teachers to support, encourage, & motivate each other, it’s a game changer

Leaders, don't overlook the importance of communication during times of high stress: * clear/ concise/ consistent *proactive/ not reactive * not just facts only but be relatable * put yourself in staffs' shoes * Listen to staff * Work toward the "now what" together moving forward

Now would be a great time for districts to reflect on and reevaluate, with admin and teacher input, what is essential and not essential, so you can remove any procedures/processes/work that is not benefiting the learning environment. So much busy work & waste that could be cut.

Teachers should not have to work well beyond contracted hours (unpaid) just to get things done. Then we wonder why there is a 50% attrition every 5 years. This year will be off charts if we don’t change expectations. We need state and district leaders to step up for teachers.

Teachers have the mindset of whatever it takes, except when it comes to their own health. Maybe it’s time for that to to be the mantra for your own mental, emotional, and physical health. Whatever it takes!
