@Kaju_Nut We introduce nonlinearity into QFT by taking higher powers of operator-valued distributions, which is intrinsically problematic. That can be fixed after the fact by renormalization, but it would be better to fix it before the fact by introducing nonlinearity in some other way.
@Kaju_Nut Me: Haag's theorem shows the Wightman axioms are too strong. We can drop: (1) Poincaré invariance (high-momentum cutoff, dimensional regularization); (2) Hilbert space structure (Pauli-Villars regularization); (3) fields are operator-valued distributions (arxiv.org/abs/2109.04412)
