I see two plausible scenarios. The best one is a new Great Depression with a major economic collapse depriving the GOP of political power for decades. The worse one is Trump consolidating autocratic power.

There was no deal. He created a completely artificial problem by imposing tariffs to tank the market, then he removed his own tariffs so that his corrupt friends and family could make money.

The crash that's now happening in the bond market has more dire implications than the crash in the stock market. If these tariffs remain in place, the U.S. could have a full-blown financial crisis by the fall that makes the 2008 Financial Crisis look like a Sunday school picnic.

The stock market hasn't come close to pricing in the recession that awaits if tariffs stay in place. Even with the drop the market is still expensive assuming recession is avoided. Since this would be the worst recession since the Great Depression, even a 50% drop isn't enough.

I don’t know where we go from here but he’s never going to get that credibility back in Wall Street’s eyes and 45 months is a long, long way to go when that’s the case.

The problem is he’s lost credibility on Wall Street. If he pushed April 9th back to April 30th we’d rally 5% and then what? The uncertainty cliff would still be there. It’s over for him in the eyes of markets.
