Dimbleby’s ‘Days That Shook The BBC’ Tuesday 6 Sept 9pm. Second half of programme looks at spiking of Newsnight’s’ expose of Jimmy Savile. The BBC failed to put up anybody to justify the decision. Not surprising- it was indefensible and should haunt those who blocked broadcast.

As far as I know, no top football writer, such as my old friend @henrywinter, has yet questioned why the most egregious VAR screw-ups (eg Rodri’s handball, the WHU goal) occur late in games to benefit the perceived ‘elite’ clubs when their own defences fail. Maybe it’s time?

Popped into Walker Art Gallery on my way to see #EFC at Goodison Park. I wasn’t aware of Lowry having made paintings in Liverpool. One of them is of Royal Iris, now moored on The Thames at Charlton and a sad shadow of what she once was.

The Tories have ensured that there is an interesting evening ahead. I normally try to avoid commenting on the fortunes of my enemies but it will be fascinating to see if Johnson can conjure another evasive wriggle that enables him to to stay on top.
