So to be clear - any student in a subject cohort of under five has their results determined by teacher prediction / 5 - 15 by teacher prediction & algorithm / over 15 by algorithm alone. This actively discriminates against students in state education. It is indefensible.

R is our school's top English student. She got 9 at GCSE. She got A at AS. She is studious, precise, deeply thoughtful. She has just had her A Level grade reduced from A* to C, apparently just because she goes to a disadvantaged school. It might help if you liked her poem.

If you care about education in England today and you’re not deeply upset about the inequalities in the A level grades you’re either protecting friends in high places, scared to raise your voice or you’ve forgotten that education isn’t just about supporting the already privileged.

Just because we’re in an area of disadvantage doesn’t mean we don’t have some exceptionally bright pupils. Our brightest have been penalised and some have lost uni places as a result. Awful day for education.

If we are now feeling very concerned about what might happen next week with GCSE results, imagine how the year 11 students must be feeling. And then we have the year 10s and 12s who must be watching all this confused about what on earth might happen to them.

#GavinWilliamson you have now said publicly that some schools/teachers would put ALL students through as A/A*s. And there it is. You do not trust or respect us. Teachers being told they are liars and cheats. And from the mouths of the biggest liars and cheats I’ve ever known.

There will be bright kids marked down because of where they go to school. There will equally be some kids who got higher grades because of where they went to school. That is an utter travesty.
