Cover cropped for three years now on the left. Hmmm. Clean fallow on the right with a full profile of moisture at start, consistently higher yielding - building more biomass and in turn more ground cover. Farm what's infront of you and not what's fashionable.

Big Corn🌽 = Big Residue💰. A 300 bushel corn crop leaves 127.5# N, 30# P2O5, 255# K2O, and 22.5# S behind in residue. With today’s fert prices, that’s a pile of 💵. Cycling those nutrients back to the soil for your 2023 crop to then use can positively impact your bottom line.

Beautiful day for soil sampling! This field near Hastings, NE gets grid sampled every year. We are seeing a lot more of that as agronomists try to built to or maintain optimum nutrient levels. Some are finding that checking every 4 years just isn't often enough. #AgTwitter

If you apply #nh3, this may be the best advice you will ever hear: DO NOT LET THAT TRACTOR SEAT GET COLD THIS FALL NH3 is stupidly cheap vs urea & UAN. It will not stay that way forever (demand will correct the difference). DO NOT miss a chance to get it applied.

Here’s a simple way to figure seed cost per acre @ 34k population. 80K/34k = 2.35acres per bag. Bag cost/2.35= cost per acre. Don’t be fooled by smoke and mirrors. At the end of the day genetics and yield are what matters.

I'm going to close the week with this statement: When you go to buy your #fertilizer, BE NICE TO YOUR SUPPLIER/RETAILER/COOP. They DID NOT do this. They would rather sell you cheap inputs. You can be pissed but do not misdirect it at the group trying to help you.

Termination timing had a huge impact on #corn growth in our #covercrop research even when a legume, like Berseem clover, was grown. This indicates shade, cool soil temperature and excessive moisture hampered crop growth. #plant21 #MSUext #mscrops 🌽

This is a common dilemma with a single application nitrogen strategy in our environment. Urea is applied too late to prevent deficiency and is compounded by no rain to incorporate fertilizer. Conversely, early timing may promote losses from wet soil. #mscrops #MSUext #corn 🌽

No matter how hard I look at a core of soil I can't tell how much Phosphorus or Zinc is there or what the pH is. Better have your farm soil sampled and run through a lab for reliable fertilizer recommendations.

Can confirm this. Not measuring total carbon but water extractable organic carbon! 4 years continuous corn, and cover crops and cows. Yields have gone up all 4 years
