This is the most comprehensive thread on doctor pay in the UK. The TL;DR Consultants are £39k/year down while the rest of the economy is down £1k/year compared to 2009 salaries. Consultants have taken a hit 40x more than the rest of the economy since 2009.

I mean this is basically outright trolling ⬇️ Whoever wrote it is either at the height of Dunning-Kruger’s “mount stupid”, plain pig ignorant, or deliberately riling a medical community deeply concerned about PAs being deployed in ways that pose obvious risks to patients.

2023 @NHSE_WTE Competition ratios are out. It is not looking good. A 20% increase in applications. Some of this will represent more people hedging their bets. Ten years ago 72-74% of people put in one application only. By 2017, this was 54%. Awaiting FOI for recent years.🧵

On training, expertise and minimum standards: Currently there's a lot of talk about alternative practitioners delivering care in medicine. Many people claim to have undergone different pathways in their training but are still able to deliver the same level of care to patients.

@DacreJane 1. Of course, pay for level of job stress is terrible. 2. Workload has increased with reducing resource (austerity has caused loss of facilities and colleagues with no prospect of their replacement). This creates feelings of helplessness.
