Submitted my M.Phil dissertation today. I dedicate this work to my teacher, Snehashish Bhattacharya, for his courage and perseverance in times of grave injustice.
Looking forward to starting my new journey at @UMassEcon.
I attempt to highlight two sets of dominant practices in the Indian university system that are constructing a new kind of “outcast” in higher education.

We're excited to announce our upcoming project "The Precarity of Work and Life: How Insecurity Equalizes and Stratifies People’s Experiences." It will feature reflections on how insecurity shapes inequality across work, finance, housing, and more.

Moving towards more surveillance might increase "performance" in the short run, but even these short term modest gains might vanish over time as people learn how to game the system.
Listening less to techbros and more to the frontline might be the actual key to better services.
If you are in Chennai next week, I'll be discussing Making India Work at Madras Institute of Development Studies (MIDS) on Friday 18th at 3.30pm with a wonderful panel including @vrsrini@kalai Priti Narayan and M Vijayabaskar. Do come along

they were not dumb, one didn’t like engineering because he wasn’t interested in that and other one was too scared and pressurised about the future. someone’s grades and marks don’t define their intelligence hope you understand that.

PhD submitted. Grateful to my supervisor, Prof. Dwaipayan Bhattacharyya, who taught me the value of weaving theory with history and fieldwork. And to JNU, for everything, but above all, for not letting our reason, innocence, and moral compass be stolen in a world on fire.
It takes a lot for someone from electoral politics to openly admit and expose the very system they are in.
All he is saying is that the very base on which this system is platformed is, was always flawed.

One of my biggest suspicions about 'decolonization' debates in/about India is the near-total absence in these conversations of scholars from the communities that were most affected by colonial punitive law (or counterinsurgency practices), namely the 'Criminal Tribes'.
We invite extended abstracts (350–500 words) for our inaugural issue by 25 July 2025.
Please submit your abstract, along with a one-page CV, at forms.gle/iRGMGmotRgkWZC…
