To test an antivirus, upload the EICAR string: X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H* You don’t have to use malware samples from vx-ug. EICAR was made for this purpose, so all AVs recognize it and will flag it.
