Re these comments from Senator Chuck Grassley today: Sen Grassley was the lead Senate sponsor of a bill to make it easier for mentally ill people to buy guns -- it was a standalone bill; that's all it did. It passed Congress a year ago today, and Pres. Trump signed it into law.

The "then-why-dont-we-ban-cars?" response from NRA types is gob-smackingly stupid. We register cars; we license drivers; we regulate how safe they have to be; we impose speed limits and safe driving rules. Would the NRA folks agree to treat guns the same way?

We are grieving with Parkland. But we are not powerless. Caring for our kids is our first job. And until we can honestly say that we're doing enough to keep them safe from harm, including long overdue, common-sense gun safety laws that most Americans want, then we have to change.
