It really easy right now to ignore law grads asking for diploma privilege because everyone thinks if you went to law school you’re already pretty well situated. But try and remember that some of us do not have the same privileges (time, resources, etc.) as others.

Today I sent a letter along with @bradhoylman & colleagues, to the Chief Judge Court of @NYCourtsCOA to share serious concerns about the planned online bar exam in October, and to urge the Court to provide graduates with an alternate path to permanent admission to practice law.

You have to read between the lines a bit, but this decision by a NY appeals court from this week seems to reveal police misconduct & perjury. There won't be any consequences for the cop, but here's what seems to have happened in case anyone's interested: nycourts.gov/reporter/3dser…

This is absolutely terrifying and crazy. Appears that a vigilante police department lying about a warrant & hunting down a public defender in retaliation for defending a person accused of trying to kill a police officer. The story is currently unfolding. Trying to find out more.

Sidebar: it's impossible to avoid the fact that the enormous debt it takes to attend many law schools exacerbates the stress that many graduates are under. We need more schools like CUNY Law offering affordable degrees and we need debt relief on the national level.

The public doesn’t know what the bar exam is. They accept that it proves competency, b/c the powers that be say so. But it’s a dereliction of our duty as a self-regulating profession to send that message at all. To do so this year, though, is of particularly grave consequence.
