When you buy a value stock, what happens each quarter
I believe by putting 70% in index and 30% in 5 to 6 ideas where you have strong sector understanding and bought at good discount to long term median pe /pb will do far better at generating alpha . Till you learn those 3-4 sectors or wait for opportunity, stay 100% index.
