@GerriePhilip @HighwaysNWEST Too much long distance traffic has clearly stayed on the M6 beyond Junction 36; drivers must be encouraged to leave the M6 either at Junction 40 (Penrith A66) or at Junction 36 (Kirkby Lonsdale A65), both on the National Highways website and on VMS from the M74 southwards.

My poor great grandparents have been stuck on the M6 southbound since 11am with no water and are still no closer to the junction. What the hell is going on? So many families with kids etc must be suffering. Planned works with no notice? Seriously? #m6 #southbound #vulnerable

@HighwaysNWEST absolutely criminal closing #m6 at Lancaster with severe lack of planning. Minimum 7 hours stuck and so much longer to go. No crash just badly planned roadworks. Emergency actions need to be taken @LancsRoadPolice

Hang in there everyone on the #m6 so far it’s taken me a whopping 9 hours to travel between junction 34 and 33. Mental. Ran out of water & food a long time ago, & I was probably more prepared than most for a long journey. Feel for those who really shouldn’t be stuck.

@HighwaysNWEST Hi there, my mother on her birthday has been stuck for 8 hrs 15mins so far traveling Milnthope m6 southbound. I am very concerned for her wellbeing. Can you provide further information as the information you are providing contradict what is actually happening in her case.

@Traffic_M6 I have travelled about 2 miles in 4 hours and I’m still a long way from J33. This level of delay and disruption is unacceptable- surely this can’t be allowed to happen for the next three weekends as well? Night closures only, please, or keep at least one lane open.

#M6 Southbound. Joined Q to diversion with 5 miles to go, 60-90 min delay. Not great but expected. In 7 hours I've moved 3 miles. #Notcool.

#M6 If your are much further back in this estimated 15-20 mile tailback on the M6 you better seriously consider the prospect of spending the whole night there. I've moved 3.5 miles in 8 hours. I estimate it will take me 10-12 hours to travel 5.6 miles 😲 #Shocking
