In a previous tweet, I have claimed that it is unknown what the letter "I" on the standard Mario coin design would stand for. I overlooked the extremely simple explanation that it is the roman numeral 1, standing for "1 coin". I apologize deeply for misjudging the situation.

In Super Mario Odyssey, Mario is able to fall asleep off edges of platforms, appearing to float. However, in Super Mario 64, code exists that checks whether there is ground behind Mario first. Thus, in a game 21 years older, sleeping is implemented in a more sophisticated manner.

In almost all depictions of Bullet Bills they are shown to either be angry or grinning maliciously whenever they have visible mouths. The licensed 1989 coloring book "Nintendo Super Mario Bros. Sticker Fun" contains a rare instance of a Bullet Bill with a happy expression.

In Super Mario Galaxy, the bottom of the cave in Boo's Boneyard Galaxy contains piles of skeletons (left). These are actually multiple instances of the model for Mario's own skeleton, seen in-game when he is hit with electricity (right).

The German version of Mario Party 5 hints at a secret romantic relationship between Princess Daisy and Wario. While a team made up of the two is called "Mismatched Pair" in the English version, the German version calls it "Heimlich Liebende", which translates to "secret lovers".
