I’ve explained to people the reason cradle Catholics like me can’t stand converts is that they bring their former (usually) evangelical BS to our rituals & completely reject “good works” which is a core tenet of Catholicism that makes us social justice minded which they reject

I think most intelligent anglophones notice our double register, but his second insight here amazed me. "English is the most physical language. To 'loom over,' to 'laugh off,' to 'dream away,' to 'live down' something, 'live up' to something. These can't be said in Spanish."
