#1: Proof-of-Entropy-Minima (PoEM) PoEM, Quai's new consensus mechanism, has been implemented since the Bronze Age. PoEM allows for the coordination of infinite chains within the network. Prior to PoEM, Quai had a hard limit on the number of chains that could be coordinated. 2/

Each Zone chain has a "byte prefix," meaning that the first 4 characters of each address/contract is used to determine which blockchain's EVM can modify it. This ensures that each Zone chain has its own set of addresses and contracts that no other Zone chain EVM can modify. 9/

If/when Quai needs to dynamically shard to support more throughput, that 9 shard construction will turn into a 16 shard construction. At 16 shards, Quai will offer ~800m gas of processing power every ~10s, a more than 27x improvement over ETH. 7/
