I don't like how Odegaard takes the volume touches in middle and final third, and then also has to do the final ball. Final ball players are usually absolved of high touch responsibilities—KDB, Bruno, Trent, Palmer, all these guys.
It's so inefficient. Not only this, he also leads and organizes the press, this might in itself is probably not a huge burden, but it just adds up. What's worse is that Arsenal have a better final ball player in Saka, but it's Odegaard who is put in these positions most often
Early versions of City, you had David Silva take volume touches, set the tempo and rhythm, and De Bruyne was the creative machine. He had the same in a way with Silva/Gundogan/Rodri later. Liverpool did it in a different way with Trent.
You don't put so much on a single player, especially one that doesn't have that final ball playing ability. It makes it so much worse when you have other players in the team, Saka and Nwaneri (Dowman soon), who can do it much better.
With Zubimendi here now, he can handle more of the volume touches in both middle and final third. That's his bread and butter. Arteta gotta try and limit Odegaard's role slowly, and let Saka be the creative hub, which is his forte anyways.
And when Nwaneri plays, tweak the system where so that he has more attacking freedom without the mental load of some of the things he asks Odegaard to do. Playing in the same position doesn't mean he should be doing the same role.
