In other news, an Ebola outbreak which, in June of 2019, became the second largest in history after the famed 2014 outbreak, continues to ravage the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The outbreak has claimed over 2,000 confirmed lives with a 67% mortality rate.

As of the sixth of January, hospitalization rates from the flu are up to 22.7 in 100,000 people from 13.7/100,000. This is partly due to the fact that the flu vaccine that is currently in rotation is not particularly effective against this season's dominant flu strain.
