@Acerola_t amazing video, I really enjoyed it! it got me wondering what sort of decal tricks Valve might be using for the bullet holes. since the holes are narrow, they're only see-through across a tight viewing angle; maybe angle-dependent masking would approximate them well enough?

@Acerola_t I believe I have an easy answer for how they did the holes via a texture. Similar to shadow mapping, transform the sample location into the intended coordinate space and use the texture brightness as a multiplier.
