Today I submitted a Notice of Intent to Veto a Bylaw pertaining to the two properties at 5 and 13 Lake Ave S. See my full statement here:
@AndreaHorwath @AndreaHorwath hope you enjoy your one term. There are plenty of vacant buildings and lots in Hamilton to repurpose. Perhaps you should put affordable housing next to your home!!!!
@AndreaHorwath I do not support this decision. The legion will not be happy. Parking is needed for a number of reasons. Executive Decision! Why have a vote, or a council. Think of the money we would save. The area has plenty of weed filled lots to build.
@AndreaHorwath Excellent, we need affordable housing. I hope you do the same with some areas in Ancaster as well, but I’m not holding my breath because they will either: a) offer you another round trip to Abruzzo, Sicily, or wherever you had your sojourn; or b) wrestle you out of office.
@AndreaHorwath I support you with this decision. The people need help. I hope other mayor's follow in your footsteps with regards to this issue. Cheerz from #TorontoDan
@AndreaHorwath Well, whether you like the Strong Mayor power thing or not, this is the intended use of it. Too many Mayor's are using it to squash developments, which is not the way to encourage more homes.
@AndreaHorwath All you Ford voters on here complaining that the mayor used a power that your boy gave her.
@AndreaHorwath Lol so what did they say? When is construction starting? Lol
@AndreaHorwath So you are using the Doug Ford's power? Why bother having council or legislature. Passing laws with 1/3 votes is the antithesis of democracy. Why don't we do this at the provincial or federal level? Imagine as anti LGBT, enviroment laws get passed. That's the precedent your are
@AndreaHorwath @JoeyColeman Thanks for judiciously using the expanded Mayoral powers. Obviously , consensus decisions are best. However, the reluctance of Council to support their unanimously identified priority left you with no choice but to veto the decision.
