#SFMotors released their vehicle designs. They mentioned autonomous capabilities but not many details. Good design, but a similar crossover Tesla X/BMW X6 design language. Looking forward to more details as they are currently preparing for manufacturing…lnkd.in/gcd6VKr

Excellent video summary on basics of LiDAR. There are still many pros/cons of all sensor systems, but LiDAR provides an additional level of visibility and thus safety.

#NAIAS Great examples of Utility AV’s. GM “sled” is prototype. The white “truck” to be remotely operated with sensors & qualification in Sweden this summer. This is an excellent method to qualify HW/SW suite without the initial human safety burden with immediate ROI.

#NAIAS Good birds-eye view of GM’s CRUISE roof sensor stack. With multiple Velodyne pucks, this roof carriage would be ripe for consolidation with current 64 and 128 channel solutions that will provide excellent FOV, while reducing maintenance, complexity, and fleet costs.

#NAIAS Detroit at AutoMobiliD: there appears to be a struggle on sensor placement for all participants. Magnetti clearly is targeting this integrated solution directly at Waymo. Integration is one aspect, but visibility distance and FOV must be the primary driver for location.

Velodyne displays their 128 channel rotational unit. Distance now up to 300m and a smaller package. This prototype unit was hand build just a few weeks ago but fully operational; a testimate to seeking further 360 viewing distance beyond cameras. #CES2018
