A 2000yo letter found at Oxyrhynchus Egypt from a landowner to an employee: 'A 1000 times i have asked you to cut down the vines...but you still ask what is to be done. To which i say: cut them down,cut them down, cut them down,cut them down,cut them down!'

On a lighter note, the 19th century equivalent of calpol was made using morphine, chloroform, codeine, opium, cannabis and heroin. Needless to say parents were very pleased with the results. The only downsides were addiction and the risk of never waking up.
