Labour says it expects to renationalise most passenger rail services in England within five years, if it is elected. Chief political correspondent Henry Zeffman had more details on #BBCBreakfast bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politi…
Renationalizing rail is hugely popular and makes sense - putting people before profit will improve services for all. Yet expect Tory spin painting this as scary socialism. In truth, public transport is a basic need, not grounds for private wealth. As energy giants hike bills, renationalization looks increasingly necessary to control costs of essentials. #Labour gives hope where this govt only offers hostility and handouts to donors. Change is coming.
@BBCBreakfast @carolkirkwood Not interested unless they provide rail travel free travel for pensioners. But they won't. So who cares? The over paid who are regular rail users!
@BBCBreakfast To be fair, Labour will need to rationalise pretty much everything in the UK following 14+ years of the Tories destroying it all.
@BBCBreakfast Three cheers for Henry Zeffman who articulates clearly every single word he speaks, unlike a good number of others I could name who mumble their way through, and who doesn’t pepper every sentence with the meaningless “you know”. He is first-rate in every respect.
@BBCBreakfast They need to do this with ALL privatised services, electric, water etc ruined by the Tories for profit.
@BBCBreakfast However that's after they have raised your taxes to pay for it
@BBCBreakfast So service won't be any better, ticket prices will increase, taxpayer subsidy will increase, and the drivers will still be on strike for more pay despite having their current pay demands met...
@BBCBreakfast Will it make travel cheaper and more reliable?
@BBCBreakfast As a progressive Country our train service is nationalised already
