Do you know what caused the crash of B-52 ?
@BLackgold_5 Ben…. visiblement plus de 50 degrés d’inclinaison ça amène du facteur de charge. Je n’ai pas fait de B52, mais il m’étonnerait fort que celui-ci soit prévu pour cela.
This is all on the pilot. He was under flying restrictions secondary to a history of risky and reckless incidents in the past. This was supposed to be a practice for an upcoming air show, and the pilot knew there were cameras running. The reason I mention cameras is because based on the story/report, I personally believe one has to consider suicide. To say this pilot didn't perceive the bank angle is simply avoiding the reality of the minuscule chance that he wouldn't understand it after all his years of flying. Also, part of the story here is that a couple of buildings over there was a class of air national guard taking place. And, there were others on board this plane, one of them ironically assigned to fly with this pilot to keep him in line.
@BLackgold_5 Pilot error. There are old pilots. And there are bold pilots. There aren’t any old, bold pilots.
@BLackgold_5 Command allowing personalities to do what they want
@BLackgold_5 You’re sideways, wings don’t work.
@BLackgold_5 Yes. Failure of command to enforce flying regulations and to allow a rogue pilot to routinely violate them.
@BLackgold_5 I’m no pilot, but I thought that you weren’t supposed to bank at low altitude due to losing lift.
@BLackgold_5 Hot-dogging pilot. He was known for it and this was inevitable.
Many technical factors. Ultimately root-cause is the pilot had a tendency to try some “Evil Knievel” maneuvers (had a sorta cavalier history). This was a “test-flight” of sorts and most of the tasks of the test had completed. It was the last leg - touch and go - left turn initiated pushed the aircraft beyond its limits.
@BLackgold_5 I remember this and knew someone who had been a friend of Col Holland. Although devastated we were told that this was not 100% unexpected.
@BLackgold_5 That was pilot error I remember this crash this was in Washington state by the retiring Wing Commander of the base
@BLackgold_5 It hit the ground….. Funnily enough, I think I do know this crash, practice for an air show, and pilot took the plane beyond capabilities.
@BLackgold_5 What caused it? Piloting like an AH caused it, that's what. 70+ degree banked turns at low level and low speed in behemoth's like that rarely end well. Your vertical lift vector all but disappears with predictable results.
@BLackgold_5 He exceeded the angle of bank necessary to maintain a positive lift vector due to the G limitations of the aircraft.
@BLackgold_5 some kind of stuck rudder or control surface? Those planes don't fly sideways very well, I have to assume it was some kind of mechanical issue.
@BLackgold_5 A lack of speed and an improper attitude (plane's orientation to the earth) resulted in a loss of lift, causing what is known in aviation as a "stall." It turns out to be a really bad idea to try and fly a B-52 sideways.
Direct cause: pilot error. Pilot exceeded angle of bank limits too low to recover. Contributing factor: crap leadership. Pilot was a known sociopath his squadron commander tried to ground but was overruled by superiors (who were subsequently court-martialed for dereliction of duty).
@BLackgold_5 Yeah, this is flight principles 101. The pilot exceeded his angle of bank for the maneuvering speed he had. Lost all lift, and lost necessary centrifugal energy to maintain horizontal stability invtge absence of lift.🐍
@BLackgold_5 A command structure that had not the balls to call out a fool, and ground a fellow Officer. After YEARS OF this man's b.s. at the risk of other's lives. If the shoe fits, Mr. Trump.
@BLackgold_5 When you fly a BUFF in an F-16 manner at low altitude, gravity sucks.
@BLackgold_5 That poor hostage crew had to go down with Mr. Hotdog.
@BLackgold_5 This looks like it was rendered on an Atari 2600.
@BLackgold_5 Yes... the right wing lost lift and stalled due to the aggressive turn and insufficient power and speed.
@BLackgold_5 Well the PIC apparently was an issue that no one reeled in, but I believe SAC at the time wanted a “ Thunderbird “ type demo team with SAC assts and, well, never really got off the ground after this episode.
@BLackgold_5 How do you make a plane go up? Pull back on the stick. How do you make a plane go down? Pull back some more.
