@raheem, an independent reporting service, recently released their findings on OPD's use of force on residents. The Oakland Police Commission, an elected group holding OPD accountable, contracted Raheem in Nov. to survey the community. Below are Raheem's 10 recommendations:
OPD does not systematically report incidents where they threaten other ppl with force (except pointing a firearm), but people directly harmed by police use of force believe police actions that intimidate or threaten ppl should be classified as use of force. Most Oaklanders agree.
Updated OPD traffic stop data released today: Black and Brown folks make up 77% of Oakland Police traffic stops. More than half of OPD stops are on Black folks. At tonight's police commission meeting, Deputy Chief Armstrong pointed to the 45% drop in stops on African Americans.
