Lizie worked with the CGA for one year, working to catalogue various features around campus. She works to create dashboards and websites for her clients, making their jobs faster and easier to perform.
Matira worked with us for one year in partnership with W&M facilities management and Professor Arthur Knight. Through surveys, GPS coordinates, and traveling campus, Matira helped record our campus's commemorative spaces.
Our Associate Director Shannon White received the honor of the Shirley Aceto Award! This award is presented to a faculty member who demonstrates commitment and service to the campus community. If you see Professor White around campus, congratulate her on this amazing achievement!
Garrett has been with the CGA for four years, serving as one of our Senior Research Mentors this past year. He studies as the co-principal investigator on a National Science Foundation Grant with SCEMFIS to expand a project on cod migration along the East Coast.
Thomas has worked with the CGA for 2 and a half years, bouncing from project to project. In between time with the City of Williamsburg, he worked to collect data on accessibility at William & Mary.
Isa is one of our incredible Teaching Assistants, but also a research student who has worked with us for two semesters. Through this experience, she has been able to learn georeferencing, a process previously unfamiliar to her, and she's enjoyed learning hands-on.
Hannah started research this past semester, bringing her Anthropology major to the forefront of her research in mapping historic spots in Ireland. She is grateful for the "dynamic learning environment for students to work on real-world projects" that let students take the lead.
Max Knight is a self-design major in spatial analytics for fire science. After the CGA extended its inspiration towards his major, he extended his work into the CGA with his independent research in creating models and mapping wildfires.
Working with state and local datasets, Alisha's research group is set in California public transport. She's worked primarily to clean and process data before extracting meaningful information in it to craft a story she hopes will influence public policy in the area.
Another one of our amazing research students, Lauren Wallis has worked with several clients to bring 1800's plats back to life in modern cartography. Lauren enjoyed the real-life application of skills and hands on experience that she hopes other students will take advantage of.
Last Thursday, Lex Nguyen and Joey Houska of the CGA Toano Walking Tour research group shared their work with Toano Historical Society. Take a look at this sneak peak of their work (arcg.is/11ien41) and reach out to Toano Historical Society; they are collecting feedback.

As part of Earth Week, we should reflect on our impacts. These @esrigram maps show the distribution of biomes across the globe (first) and then condenses them together (second). Spatial rearrangement brings new perspectives and gets us thinking: how should we be using the land?
