#otd Sept. 4, 1957, Delois Huntley, Dorothy Counts, Gus Roberts, and Girvaud Roberts became the first Black children to attend all-white schools in Charlotte. Later, they were celebrated at Park Center (now the Grady Cole Center) by Kelly Alexander, Sr. of the Charlotte NAACP.

#otd in 1936, the Mint Museum opened -- formerly the Assay Office in uptown, the building was remodeled by the WPA and moved from its W. Trade St. to Randolph Road. The opening exhibition notably included a large portrait of Queen Charlotte, painted by Alan Ramsay.
Charlotteans were the first in the nation to see a new vehicle on the city’s streets back in 1935—an enclosed fire truck. Despite its popularity in Europe, they had not taken off in the US when @charlottefire purchased the country's first. #ArchivesOnTheRoad #ArchivesHashtagParty
