@CSMFHT Why? He just cribbed from Homer's great works and changed a few things to make it suit Augustus. A "reboot for modern audiences" of its day. Sad!
@CSMFHT whats the point of doing a big fanfic if you dont make it gayer virgil doesn't have that himedanshi sauce
@CSMFHT Aeneas the demi-god got his ass thoroughly kicked by the mortal Diomedes and only survived the encounter because his mommy came down from Mount Olympus to save him. He should have died of shame. Doesn't deserve a story, let alone a epic one.
@CSMFHT The divine comedy wouldn’t be the same without it
@CSMFHT How about Lucan and his Pharsalia 🙂↕️ that was a masterpiece
@CSMFHT Once someone makes a musical about that
@CSMFHT The Iliad is better. It’s obviously a masterwork but there’s a reason I think homer is more beloved for good reason. Plus it’s unfinished, right?
@CSMFHT The Aeneid is a masterclass of ancient propaganda written to connect Rome to an even more ancient superpower
@CSMFHT Listen the Aeneid’s fine as a propaganda piece for Augustus but I’m here to tell you that ILIAD AND ODYSSEY ARE TO AENEID AS MT OLYMPUS IS TO A PUDDLE. & that’s that on that.
@CSMFHT Most of these stories are a collection of fanfics written over the course of centuries and I love it 🥰
@CSMFHT I totally agree with that the great Borges wrote about our boy. subsublibrarian.com/2020/11/13/vir…
@CSMFHT It is not easy to write in dactylic hexameter. Granted, it's probably easier if you're a native latin speaker but still. Very impressive.
@CSMFHT I like his shepherd's poems better. To be honest, the Aeneid suffered from my exhumation with the classics that semester. I didn't really liked it because it felt too much like reading the Odyssey and the Illiad all over again.
@CSMFHT Didnt you say just the other day that it was fanfic?/genq
@CSMFHT I just finished reading a mystery novel about a murder at a romance novel convention. A novel named A Willow in Her Hand was the most popular book of the time. That's Virgil adjacent!
