June is PTSD Awareness Month. Most people will experience a trauma at some point in their life and some will develop PTSD. About 60% of men and 50% of women experience at least one trauma in their lives. About 7-8% of the population will have PTSD at some point in their lives.
There is a lot of focus on crime and punishment. What is left out is the victims. How will this impact their lives? What will it take to fully recover? Some clients come in yrs after the crime. They felt "I should just get over it." It isn't always that easy, and that's okay.
