We had a lovely morning in Dosbarth Birch taking part in Easter activities in St Mary’s Church, Whitchurch and learning all about the Easter story. A big thank you to Rev Anna and all the helpers who made our visit so interesting and exciting.

Today on Remembrance Day the whole school joined together outside for an assembly next to our Poppy Garden. We did a 2 minutes silence thinking of all those who have fought in wars and are still fighting. Thank you to Mrs Hann for playing the trumpet and making it so special.

This week Dosbarth Hawthorn (1) have written a recount showing their writing skills learnt over the term. They have added and subtracted 10 with numbers up to 20 and created pop art pictures of toys in the style of Andy Warhol. Hope you all have a lovely half term!

Year 1 (Dosbarth Hawthorn) have worked hard again this week writing recounts of our St Fagans trip, using 10 p and 1p coins to make teen numbers and learning about some traditional toys and games from African and Caribbean cultures for Black History Month. Bendigedig!

Today Dosbarth Birch have been showing their support for Show Racism the Red Card. This has been a good extension to our work on Black History month where we have leant about influential black people like Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Parks. Have a lovely weekend.

A busy day yesterday in Birch Class celebrating Diwrnod Shwmae. We made Welsh fortune tellers, Shwmae badges and Welsh cakes. Then we read Welsh books with our buddies in Oak class and shared our cakes. Ffantastig!!!

Year 1 have ended the week well once again. They have used time connectives to write about ‘Lost in the Toy Museum’, estimated numbers of objects to 20 and beyond and tested materials to see which are waterproof and possibly suitable for a teddy’s raincoat. Bendigedig pawb!

This week the children in Year 1 have been extending sentences by using the word ‘and’ to join two sentences together, made pictures of spiders and measured their legs using Dienes, learnt vocabulary to describe different materials used to make toys and practised colour mixing.
