As the first Black person elected to the House of Commons, Lincoln Alexander gave a voice to those who had been previously unheard. Today we remember his legacy and the doors he opened. Read Minister Khera’s statement: canada.ca/en/canadian-he… #LincolnAlexanderDay
@CdnHeritage @StatCan_eng Also the first black Cabinet minister (appointed Labour Minister by Joe Clark in 1979.) And, of course, the first black Lieutenant Governor of Ontario (appointed by Brian Mulroney in 1985.) He had a very distinguished career.
@CdnHeritage Previously unheard? There’s no sin in demographics. Canada was 0.5% - 1% black when he became an MP. There weren’t millions of unheard black Canadians clamouring for a voice. 🙄 #IdentityPolitics
@CdnHeritage @ChadCollinsMP I like Morgan Freeman’s line ‘the best way to end R@cism is to stop talking about it’ Wouldn’t it b better to b remembered by ur competence - rather than ur skin & how people distinguish it? Wouldn’t u prefer 2 have a genuine complement ? ChadC - that suit makes u look fit !
