How text gradients work: the color comes from the background! You set the text itself to be transparent, and set the background to be clipped to the text. This might seem arcane for a common design, but it's flexible—instead of gradients, you can use any background-image.

Optimizing performance? Don't just blindly apply any and all tips you see on Twitter—they may not move the needle. Let profiling guide you. 80% of the gains are from 20% of the investment. And it's usually far less esoteric and more basic concepts than what you see in tips.

Don't sweat trying to pick up all the tips you see on Twitter. These might help once in a while in small ways, but at the end of the day, fundamentals are more important, and learn on-demand whatever you need in the moment.

Familiar with the classNames library for React? Try clsx instead. It's smaller, faster, and has a more flexible API.

The best engineers I know haven't been hacking since age 10, aren't slinging code at all hours, have 10-100 followers on Twitter, and aren't experts who know random CSS properties. They're just deeply experienced at learning, thinking and doing.

Everyone fixates on learning a language or framework. "Just learn JS," say gurus. That's just the tip of the iceberg. You'll need to learn heaps more libraries, APIs, platforms, tools, and more. The thing to actually get good at is learning.

Lodash is a popular and handy utility library…but try to use it as little as possible! It’s known to be *very* slow. The browser already has many functions built-in, which run many times faster. Being built-in also means faster load times!
