Coaches, I’ve seen lots lately about how *not* to coach youth players. So what’s the alternative to 🕹️ joystick coaching? A mega 🧵 of others’ posts.
For starters let’s think about the young person being coached. Put their experience first. @jungrassroots

@Coach__Luca Excellent thread! How would the joystick coaches respond to being controlled themselves on the touchline (by someone who obviously knows much better but is just trying to help them!) 🤣
@Coach__Luca Great thread, when kids play without constant instruction, they learn to read the game, make quick decisions, and respond to challenges on their own. it just might take a bit longer to see the results.
@Coach__Luca I think first we need to define Joystick coaching Yelling pass or shoot or other specific choices for me fits that obviously What about not guarding the back post Caught ball watching to the side Correct or not? I do, I feel like players can learn during a game
@Coach__Luca So now positioning I coach that all day long during games So do pro coaches btw All of them, some a ton Some at youth level don’t, but my assumption is they can’t They don’t see it Don’t understand it As long as the players understand the why So THEY can read the game too
