I'm working on a game called little scavenger and you can follow me to support development 😎😎😎😎😎
My mom saw me playing blood borne and ask why I couldn't make that🥲💀
@CodeRed_dev Comparison is into human nature, inevitable imo 😅 Anyway, I’m not afraid of my big competitors, and you guys please do the same, believe in your projects and yourself, your indie game is unique 💪
@CodeRed_dev Ultimately as a commercial indie we are trying to sell people stuff and that's the market. I am happy to compete with them and happy to be compared to them! I want to make products that hold their own in their own way.
@CodeRed_dev nope but I always have welcomed a challenge
@CodeRed_dev Yes, but I have also had friends that told me "you're on your own, and doing amazing things. Keep doing your best but, compare yourself to big companies", and I still tell myself that advice almost every day
@CodeRed_dev I mostly get asked why I focus on retro styles... M8 because I'm working alone for the most part and I don't have the time or brain capacity to spend 7 hours making a hyper realistic chair prop. That + nostalgia is addictive
@CodeRed_dev Thankfully not. And if I did have a friend do that, we'd no longer be on speaking terms to say the least. I've had random people do stuff along those lines but it's whatever.
@CodeRed_dev Maybe I'm lucky but my gamer coworkers were amazed by it and bought it
@CodeRed_dev I'm still waiting for this guy to jump from the bushes. A wild, and rather angry, game critic has appeared!
@CodeRed_dev Homemade doesn't mean inferior Respect yourself stop trying to sell bad products
@CodeRed_dev I had one friend pointing all the bad design I already knew about my game and then be surprised when I said. "Is just a little project in one month I'm not polishing it more"
@CodeRed_dev that cost $60 for barebones and like $100 for complete edition plus has extra season passes for content that will be added later on and microtransactions for extra cosmetics u might wanna buy LOL
@CodeRed_dev I compare games all the time but only to verbalize what people can expect from it. I try to stay mostly away from comparing indie games with AAA games though.
@CodeRed_dev What I usually ask them is "What solo indie game are you comparing my game to?" And if they don't have an answer or they mention AAA games: "Thank you for comparing my game to tittles that cost millions to make and a whole team to Develop"
@CodeRed_dev I'm making an old school, isometric fun racer. Response from my nephew was: do you know GTA? There you can get out of the car and shoot 🤣
@CodeRed_dev I wouldnt say they are friends but i experience this type of reaction every time I do a indie game jam. Normally I get about 4 days to make a game and always get at least one review that compares it to AAA games
@CodeRed_dev @Fl00rMaster Haven't run into that problem with my current project as of yet. The bar I set for myself was to try to make something of comparable quality to a typical game from 20 years ago, so those have been the comparisons I've been getting. Definitely much fairer.
@CodeRed_dev More indie horror games are better
@CodeRed_dev It’s actually an epidemic how often people compare games to other games. I see it every time- “woah, this reminds me of this game mixed with this game with the art style of this game!”. Often in a negative light too
@CodeRed_dev Indie videogames are the work of artisans. It's just stupid to compare it.
