Tues 2 Sept is Belgium’s biggest racing day of the year. The 10 race card at Waregem consists of 4 Trots, 2 Flat races (an International Arabian race & the Belgium St Leger for T’breds) & 4 Jump races including the €100K 4,600m Grand Steeplechase of Flanders. 7 runners go in it.

This weekend’s obscure French track is VERTOU (about 10km from the city of Nantes) which only races 2 days a year - today & tomorrow. Both days have 8 races - 6 Trots followed by 2 Hurdle Races. It is a very tight right-handed oval just 1,200m round but with 5 hurdles per circuit

Today’s French single meeting of the year track is Montignac-Charente (does also stage 3 grass trotting meetings earlier in the summer) but this evening’s card consists of 6 flat races over either 2600m or 2100m. The left-handed oval, in the mid Southwest, first opened in1989.

⁦@WeaverRacing⁩ If you like pics of obscure French racecourses you might like this pic of a track which stages it’s only meeting of the year tomorrow - Sille-Le-Guillaume - 1,300m round right-handed oval. The 8 race card is made up of 2 flat races, 2 hurdle races & 4 trots.

Halfway in the French Jump Jockeys Championship (1/1/25 to 31/12/25) - Felix de Giles 54 winners, Lucas Zuliani 46, James Reveley 42, Johnny Charron 35, Clement Lefebvre 31, Killian Dubourg 31. Leading female jockey Bryony Frost 13 winners.

How time flies - Can’t believe the 5 Epsom Derbys I called on track were High Rise 1998, Oath ‘99, Sinndar 2000, Galileo ‘01 & High Chapparal ‘02 - making me feel a bit old! On the day Sinndar beating Sakhee a length in a big field was the most thrilling.

ESC Final (pt2) Sweden are quite rightly favourite - the song is clever enough to win Jury votes & has been the fan favourite for months. I hope it wins both with heart & betting interest. I also have Netherlands EW & to finish top 5. Played UK to finish bottom 3 & Germany last.

Due to a heavy work schedule I am late to comment on this eve’s ESC but home in time to watch it. The Swiss TV producers have put together a running order that greatly favours the “fan favourite” songs - handing them great “draws” eg Sweden 23, Finland 13 etc…..

I may be slightly biased but if you would like excellent analysis ahead of the KY Derby you will not find a better horse-by-horse preview than the one written by Rachel Candelora on racingtv.com - FYI the Louisville weather forecast for Derby Day is wet - all day!

Released this evening - SF1 on Tues 13 May & SF2 on Thurs 15 May. The UK, being one of “The Big 5”, automatically qualify for the Final however they will appear between songs 6 & 7 in SF2.

The Running Orders for both Eurovision Semi Finals are released this evening (7pm GMT) with 15 countries in SF1 & 16 in SF2. 10 countries will qualify from both SFs to join “The Big 5” & hosts Switzerland in the Final. SF1 is by far the stronger semi.
