@CommodoreBlog In a shared apartment with heavy smokers, with a little patience, it was possible to turn a black-and-white screen into an amber version.
@CommodoreBlog As someone trapped with an Amstrad green screen for years, I say...no!
@CommodoreBlog I actually already do this, it's so much kinder on the eyes.
@CommodoreBlog Green is also acceptable
@CommodoreBlog Amber Monitor and red plasma displays. Fly on!
@CommodoreBlog And Richard Pryor!
@CommodoreBlog They started green, turned brown from cigarette smoke most likely.
@CommodoreBlog I want green eInk displays with glow-in-the-dark ink in the pixels, so we can pretend old green-screen phosphor displays are back.
@CommodoreBlog Make 'em amber and portable!
@CommodoreBlog My old kaypro had a button that cycled through amber, blue-white, yellow, and green. It was awesome
@CommodoreBlog Fun fact, you can set your powershell interface to emulate monochromatic monitors with crt scan lines and pixel bleed effects. It's fun because it brings back so many memories
@CommodoreBlog Every Sunday we still play since about 1975. PLATO - Empire
@CommodoreBlog This sounds like something written by someone who never had to use amber or green monitors... they were awful and i dont miss them one bit.
I loved me my amber monitor. Fun fact: on old architectures, the text buffer was separate from the VGA buffer, so you could run TWO monitors at the same time, which was wizardly back in the day. I'd scroll debug logs to the text monitor while executing graphics programs in the VGA.
@CommodoreBlog My favorite. I used to have an Amber serial terminal hooked to a raspberry pi but sold it, now if just got green. I wish I could find a blue text terminal. Those are rare.
@CommodoreBlog I have one on my desk!
@CommodoreBlog M77 Fortran is best written on a grease stained amber monitor.
@CommodoreBlog If you had one of those then you were the business.
@CommodoreBlog You can change your color settings to look like that in a few seconds.
@CommodoreBlog The 1st step is HOARDING ANY Amber monitors long ago. Then, and only then can they be "brought back". Same with Green and White phosphor CRTs too. City-Folk didnt/dont have excess square footage then/now to store them for this future, so they are rare and expensive forever now!
@CommodoreBlog You can make your LCD screen look like this if you really want
@CommodoreBlog If you want to do some serious computing, there's no better display than an amber CRT.
@CommodoreBlog I'm gonna draw a line.. well ok maybe just for a day so we can hear the tick of the plastic as it warms and the cats have a warm place to sit again 😂
@CommodoreBlog This was how I communicated with the VAX/VMS at my school. Wow. Nostalgia.
@CommodoreBlog The first computer I bought had an amber screen. Unfortunately I couldn't find a screenshot of of my favourite game in amber. NetHack:
