People see this as an example of the American electorate being fickle. But IMO it’s way more likely the average American wants the border tightly controlled AND doesn’t want masked ICE agents detaining random people who may or may not even be illegals.

The structure of the primary coalitions/incentives and all that, but sometimes you wonder how popular a President could be if they just did the things that the electorate is very obviously asking for in some key areas.
President Biden pushed through the biggest climate bill in history and then he pushed through the largest infrastructure bill since the 1960s and then he passed a hundred reforms that the left had been asking for and everyone hated the whole program. What 2021-2025 proved is that the Democrats need to shift to the right because there are no votes on the Left.

@Conblob It’s not possible w/o immigration reform. While Obama was retrospectively popular (bc Clinton/Trump were unpopular in waning days), Trump came to power on back of immigration when Obama largely kept “the border!” secure/crossings low (bc economy was depressed)
