Despite being refitted for combat operations during the Klingon-Federation War. The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) now under the command of Captain Christopher Pike, is side lined. She saw no combat in the year long war. Instead she carried on her 5 year exploratory assignment

In 2256 The Battle of the Binary Stars, took place and Starfleet found itself at war once more. Hurrying to make the ship's battle ready. Starfleet began a modification program to all Constitution-Class ships including the USS Enterprise. Batch 2 also got these upgrades.

By the launch of the USS Constitution in 2244. 17 NX Refits were still in active service. Reduce to light duty work like supply runs, Core world defence and Stellar Mapping missions. These ships were pretty much at the end of their life span, with many being unreliable.

In 2245: Captain Robert April is named as the Captain of Starfleet's second Constitution Class starship. It is also confirmed that spaceframe NX-1701 will carry the name Enterprise, in honour of Captain Jonathan Archer's famous warp five NX-01 Enterprise.

2242: Construction begins on the spaceframe NX-1701. Later to become USS Enterprise NCC-1701. Historians note: In the 2240 to 2270s all spaceframes were designated with NX prefects until they were given a certification of service by Starfleet Command.

In 2230 Admiral Jefferies and Captain Robert April, came to see the necessity for an all-purpose vessel that could explore space while protecting Federation interests and expanding its reach. by 2244 that had idea came alive with the launch of the USS Constitution (NCC-1700)
