A great read from @ConstantinoX on the latest China in South Asia report and key lessons learnt. A big thank you as well for giving shoutout to The Araniko Project 😊
Always grateful for the first report @anekarebeccaraj and I wrote for @CSEP_Orgcsep.org/blog/china-in-…
Insightful read from @ConstantinoX on (1) significant knowledge gap on China (2) tendency of south Asian scholars to be more critical of India than China and (3) giving China more agency than warranted by facts in South Asia. Do read. csep.org/blog/china-in-…
I write on 3 things I learned from our project on China in South Asia:
- Region-wide knowledge gap about China
- Concerns from non-India scholars to write about China
- Influence not only due to push from Beijing, also big pull factor from South Asia

PM Modi visit to Japan.
Singapore PM in Delhi.
German FM in Delhi.
EU econ deal in sight.
Lots going on beyond US, China, Russia triangle. India engaging and being engaged across the board. Investments in “middle power architecture” paying off — esp valuable as system shakes.
“The bromance is dead. The question is when did it die?” @KiraHuju tells “The Intelligence” what the souring of the Trump-Modi relationship means for India. Listen now economist.com/podcasts/2025/…
.@ConstantinoX addressed the 65th course at India’s National Defence College, presenting on Neighbourhood First policy to 124 participants from India & 44 partner countries. A rich discussion on India’s regional role & connectivity power.

While this all looks (and also feels) as bad as it gets, I am a little more cautious: the jury is still out on whether the current crisis will either a) rupture/end or b) damage/weaken the partnership (and to what extent). Time will tell... but my bet is on long-term resilience.

Much to learn here... including how India's BSF uses beehives on smart fences to offer the border communities an alternative source of income.

From sitting on a fence to now sleeping with authoritarians… bad metaphors will keep piling up!
Yet India will continue to do what it does best since 1947: pursue its national interests by dynamically calibrating its position in an evolving world order.
