LHS-UConn ECE marine science class earned 2nd place in their heat and then the right to compete in the finals of the cardboard boat race. Boats bunched up big time at starting line- Ledyard pushed free to take 2nd place 🥈 on the whole race! Wow!

Ledyard HS- Uconn ECE 🛶 boat race is Sept 19th at noon at Eastern Point Beach. In the spirit of the theme… 50 years of Jaws we are entering the “FIN-isher”. It is a dogfish 🦈 that will chew its way to the end! Updates and more photos on race day. Go Husky Colonels!
LHS AP Bio gulls part 2…. Students saw firsthand the loss of vegetation on the island due to cormorant guano. Areas with green largely had no cormorants! Also took time to filet the catch.
LHS AP Bio- gulls of south dumpling island and fishing trip. We flipped the script and fished 1st due to favorable tide. Six stripers over the rail- 3 keepers (28-31”). Two nice outsized fish at 36”&40”!
LHS- ECE marine science beach cleanup & Cookout. Large amount of floatable debris both small and large was collected- nice job all! Reward was some beach games, hot dogs and smores on grill. Thanks for a great year.
LHS - ECE marine science posters and presentations at UCONN Avery Point. LHS students presented their year long projects to an audience, fought through nerves and answered some tough questions about their research. Poster session followed. Great job all!
LHS -UCONN marine science on Project O. Sampling water chemistry and launching our ROV at 4 sites along Thames River. Saw some worm tubes, small fish and sunken treasure (a quarter)! Nice job Colonels, hope the sunshine and 70s were not too tough on you!

NOSB Quahog Bowl 2025 is a wrap. Ledyard High students placed very well! After morning round robin rounds, LHS was seeded #2! LHS went on to win our quarter final match and advanced to semi finals. That was unfortunately the end of our journey, so very proud of our 4 Colonels.
LHS marine science had a super, spectacular, stupendous seal 🦭 sighting field trip. About 134 seen in total! Launched our ROV at Hungry Point and a few brave souls did the blubber glove on trip back. How cold is 47° water after 30 seconds? 😳 How good of a seal are you?

LHS - Uconn marine science sportfish trip hit a snag when big boat broke! Everyone pitched in for a quick change to light tackle and small boats. Calm day got us to vixens ledge, sea flower reef & n. Dumpling island. Couldn’t have done it without these great kids!

LHS Marine Science with Project O, Pine Is. Ecosystem trip. Extreme high tide made sampling very tough. Lg. beach seine netted over 2000 fish (yes we counted)! What a nice bunch of kids to spend the day with!
LHS AP Bio did beach cleanup on Pine Island. 4 large garbage bags filled plus some large pieces of fishing gear. Data analysis and compare to a CT data set when we return. Cookout on beach followed cleanup. Record for the day,8 🌭. Second record 13 skips on a rock ☺️
