Meeting Marshall Ganz at the @DCLFoundation lecture series last week was a once in a lifetime opportunity - as well as taking his Public Narrative course. The wildest part was that of the 200+ students around the world, I got to meet one of them! Hope is the inverse of fear 🤍

How do we decide the target inflation rate? @ArmineYalnizyan believes it’s hard to say. The current targeted 2% is an arbitrary number because even if we fixed inflation, prices are already high, stating, “Let’s think about the problem as affordability and not inflation.”

@francesdonald argues that we should care about inflation because it’s driving policy, and possibly in inappropriate ways. For instance, she argues that the Bank of Canada is contributing to inflation by raising rates on mortgages and other areas.

@ArmineYalnizyan on inflation, “We haven’t seen anything like this.” She states society is depending on the working-age cohort, given lower fertility rates and other factors. Thus, fighting inflation must coincide with helping workers and making living more affordable.
