(Search 2) A chance for Ella to equalise in their search for a 2 pence which PD Bert won this morning. Sadly for Ella PD Bert made it 2 nil. But don’t doubt Ella because on the next search she showed her class.
TPD Blue’s puppy walker is on holiday until the 10th of May. Steve Pearce who used to be a full time puppy walker & now provides short term help will be looking after TPD Blue. People like Steve means our pups rarely have to stay in kennels. TPD Blue out with Steve today.👏👍
PD Bert is starting to give Ella a run for her money. She has always shown PD Bert a clean pair of heels in search games but recently PD Bert has realised charging everywhere doesn’t always win the prize. Here they are searching for a 2 pence piece I’ve thrown into woodland

I’m often asked what position I teach on the ‘Wait’ and the answer is I go with what comes natural to the dog which in Ella’s case is the stand & in PD Bert’s case the down. Having said that I rarely use stopping at distance because I always prefer to recall the dog back to me

Poppy. Believe it or not I saw a Bouvier and handler from France perform amazingly at a John Rumble ring sport day which was mainly Malinois dogs many years ago. I wanted to try one but couldn’t get a working line pup. If you go back 10 months on our twitter it shows Bert start

Having started PD Bert’s tracking at 9 weeks he is now obsessed with tracking anyone he can if I let him. As long as I keep him engaged he will stay with me but if I don’t he is off like a bloodhound. Fortunately his recall is bombproof.
TPD Blue says sometimes having a very long tongue can be useful for all sorts of things. TPD Blue I think we know where you are coming from.😜
Shane and TPD Jasper could never be accused of lacking enthusiasm. They are like peas in a pod sometimes they get it right and sometimes they get it wrong but they always enjoy doing it. (Stage 2 of person searching)
Fresh from running a very respectable time in the London Marathon Shane attended training with TPD Jasper yesterday. Shane tells me he used to be a reasonably footballer & demonstrated his skills dummying the ball through his legs on their first introduction to person searching
With me being the trainer along with my youthful students Terry & Jill and Mitzi & Colin I was reminded by Mitzi that the average age of our participants in the afternoon training session was 72. Fortunately it was TPD Diesel & TPD Herbie who did the agility & not us.
Terry and Jill are looking after TPD Diesel while his puppy walkers are on holiday and so they brought him to training yesterday. Terry & Jill about to turn 80 have puppy walked many dogs for us. Although they no longer do it full time they still provide temporary cover for us.👏
Today we introduced a toy hidden at the end of the track for the first time. Using food on the track has served its purpose but as the tracks become more demanding switching to a toy gives us increased motivation. Here is Chris & TPD Kilo tracking with real focus & concentration
I was really pleased with the tracking of our 5 pups January 2025 Initial course pups at training yesterday. We had to track in the Police dog exercise area which is full of distraction smells. We kept it simple & all the pups were superb. Here is Mike and TPD Ace
My usual 6am session with PD Bert & then Ella at Killerton absolutely lovely. Looking forward to training our Catello pups today TPD’s Ace, Jasper, Herbie, Kilo & Diesel. We will be doing tracking, stand offs, person searching & prep for the Devon county show. 👍
What is a clear headed dog? Giant Schnauzer’s PD Bert and PD Albert are 2 clear headed dogs. No matter how excited or whatever pressure they are under they remain fully responsive & in control of their emotions. You can see PD Bert & all of our pups at the Devon County show.
Another one of our dedicated puppy walkers Mike who goes off to work at 5am leaving TPD Ace with his wife Kim. As soon as Mike gets home it’s straight up to the training field with Ace. The field is owned by Dave Maynard who puppy walked PD Luna & allows Mike to use it. 👏
More good work by Scott and TPD Ozzie in a very busy dog walking park. Not all dog handlers follow Twitter but if they did they would see just how much work our puppy walking volunteers put into their dogs.

@DC_PoliceDogs It is but the question should be asked how as thus been achieved through trainung methods. I would suspect through the use of an ecollar based on the dogs reaction to the command.

Congratulations to everyone but especially Paul and Bert as I'm a little bit biased 😉🤣! Not only has Bert overcome an incredibly turbulent entrance into this world and been hand reared, but he has successfully licensed as a PD at only 14 months old 🐾🥰

💥 Response officers attended an address looking for a male believed to have just committed a robbery at a local shop …. Officers could see the male within the address however upon searching couldn’t be found …. In came Albert who found him hiding under a load of furniture 💥
