Sickle Cell Admission Thread. I’m not even sure where to start the story because it’s developing one. For months I’ve been looking extra jobs to supplement my photography since it’s been slow. On Monday I reported for my new job where a crisis was triggered.

A co-worker ended their life after our shift the other day. Didn't go home and shower. Didn't change out of scrubs. Don't know if it was planned or spontaneous but I do know we got the last living moments. And I don't know how I feel about that. Our broken team is shattered.

The O-wave continues but it seems to have peaked and is indeed less severe than delta. Fewer hospitalizations and fewer critically ill patients. The system is still stretched and delays in treating non-COVID patients are still a huge problem. Let us avoid Wave #5. #getvaccinated

Children can become severely ill with COVID-19. We should seek to protect them as much as we can, given the unknown quantities, "long COVID" and MIS-C. Teach them the protocols including mask-wearing in those over 2 years. Protect them by protecting ourselves. #GetVaccinatedNow

Listening to @NationwideRadio 7 am news. Commissioner of police says resources do not allow for expanding ZOSOs. There isn't money or enough personnel to mount the level of security forces saturation needed. So now I am very confused. What difference in costs are there for SOEs?

The "long COVID" condition has emerged as a significant factor in this pandemic. The problem can be debilitating and so should not be ignored. It can occur in children. It can occur in mild or asymptomatic COVID. Vaccination reduces its occurrence. #GetVaccinatedNow

MIS-C is a serious condition that appears to be linked to COVID-19. Some children who have even mild COVID go on to develop MIS-C, in which some organs and tissues — eg the heart, lungs, blood vessels, kidneys, digestive system, brain, skin, eyes — become severely inflamed.
