Here we had a customer ask us about repairing their crane boom turret. It was a very involved repair process but it ended up saving the customers huge amounts of money when compared to buying new.

This is the Betts. At 10’ table diameter it our largest vertical turning center. Here we are marching the inside of a coal pulverizer wheel.
This machine is a Craven VTL (vertical turret lathe). Made in Britain in the late 30s we can only surmise that it turned tank turrets for the war effort (based on its size, country of manufacture, and turning capability). Following the war it was sent to the United States.
Ever have a pulley or a hub that is “stuck” on a shaft? Here we have an approximately 2’ diameter hub stuck on an 8” diameter shaft. This is a component used by a gold mine. How do we get it off? A huge hydraulic puller (held up by a forklift) and a lot of heat!
Before/after shot. This is a dust cover for a coal pulverizer—machined from a solid piece of steel initially weighing in at around 650 lbs.
We would like to wish a happy (belated) 80th birthday to the Axleson manual lathe. It is one of the oldest machines in our shop and is still used on a weekly basis. I know it is a trite expression to say they don’t make them like they used to but this phrase is absolutely true.
