The federal Housing Plan, released today, will invest an additional $1 billion into the Reaching Home program, which combats homelessness. Except, does it? In 2022, an Auditor General's report demonstrated we have no data to prove the program's efficacy. thestar.com/politics/feder…
At the same time, we have our first federal recognition of #encampments through a (very modest) $500 million investment, co-founded by the provinces, for encampment support. But given @HousingLogement's deadline of August for an #encampment strategy, we'll need to see a plan.
They did seem to earmark some money for rights based approaches to homeless encampments - what do you make of it? How would it work? Is it conditional? Municipality only gets the money if they adopt a rights based approach? Who gets to decide if it's rights based? Are they required to use the Municipal Guidance? The National Protocol? 😉😉
@Diana_C_McNally The problem ic @MTL_Ville is manipulated homeless statistics...the origin of the practice 2 hide Anglophone citizenry + other languages like Spanish, Arabic, Desi languages to make servicing them on paper unnecessary....somehow even post pandemic @Val_Plante sees # same as pre
