Idris Elba says racist comments turned him off the idea of playing James Bond: “Those that weren’t happy about the idea made the whole thing disgusting & off-putting, it became about race. It became about nonsense and I got the brunt of it.” (Source: wondery.com/shows/smartles…)
@DiscussingFilm it's like casting Ryan Gosling as the next Black Panther 🤷♂️
@DiscussingFilm They did the same thing with Halle playing little mermaid like come on racism in 2023 is disgusting
@DiscussingFilm James Bond is suppose to be White so get over it not everything is about race.
@DiscussingFilm Really? In this article from last year, he said playing Bond is not a goal of his. menshealth.com/entertainment/…
@DiscussingFilm its a no brainer---Bond has always been a white guy- dont be so butthurt. A new 007 is your ticket. Anyone can replace #007. Idris be an awesome 007
@DiscussingFilm He would have made a great Bond. He shouldn’t let people keep him from big opportunities like this
@DiscussingFilm And he would have ate that role up…
@DiscussingFilm @ThaPill82 Dammit man.. dammit.. hes 100 percent on point.. he wouldve made amazing james bond films.. you really dont know what you missed out on .. dammit.. dammit man.
I love Idris as an actor. Could he be a realistic 007? He could be a realistic modern-day agent, for sure, but that is not the question here. When we look at the creators' original vision, then James Bond is an extremely dull, uninteresting Anglo-Saxon man to whom things happened, a blunt instrument. I think Idris is everything but dull or Anglo-Saxon. I would rather see him as a new agent in the same universe. We had enough James Bond to last a lifetime. That being said, what is the real motivation to choose him for this role? Is it really because he would make a great and believable James Bond, or because the studio wants to cater to woke ideologies and ESG scores? If the latter turns out to be true, that would be disrespectful to Idris, who deserves to stand in the spotlight for his qualities as an actor, and to the 007 fans. Either way, it should never be about race. It should be about honoring the source material, the vision, and the actors as actual human beings regardless of race, instead of using them as a tool to virtue-signal your inclusion policies to the world.
