Perhaps the best way to silence the “sorry brigade” and all, is to move our Australia Day to 17th February or 3rd March each year. The Australia Act 1986 severed all legal ties (except the monarchy) between Australia and the United Kingdom. The Act came into effect on 17 March.

Surely, someone in government would have had a contingency plan for an adverse ruling in the indefinate detention case in the High Court. Should there have been legislation in place ready to be enacted for detaining those detainees who pose serious risks to public safety?

I understand that Health, Housing and Education are the key close-the-gap issues for our first nation peoples - they are State responsibilities according to our Commonwealth constitution. So how is The Voice relevant?

There is hear-say evidence that a growing number of small to medium sized NFPs are choosing not to register as charities, despite likely being eligible and despite being active public fundraising organisations, to avoid the more onerous and complex Commonwealth regulation.

Public hospitals are unable to attract enough doctors to deal with patients who can't afford GPs who want more $ than Medicare will pay them. Hence ambulance ramping and long waits in Admission and Emergency at public hospitals.

#pmlive The policy underpinning the drive to cleaner energy is to raise the cost of electricity based on coal and gas so that consumers use less and eventually switch to cleaner energy. Will the electorate bear the pain? Will industry dependant on sustainable electricity survive?

Like many, I was saddened to hear of Margaret Urlich's passing this morning. I was lucky enough to work with her when she guested on Full Frontal and the Micallef Program. A remarkable voice, a lovely person and a great sense of humour. VALE.
